Therapeutic
Centre
Life Skills Hub Therapeutic Centre is for students age 8 to 18 years old who are experiencing difficulties attending school due to complex social emotional and mental health needs. Our students often experience high anxieties, have low school attendance or are not quite ready for school. They may be transitioning between education settings and this is where we can help. The aim of the Therapeutic Centre is to improve individual’s wellbeing, identify specific needs and develop their social and life skills.

Our students come to us either full or part-time to undertake specialist wellbeing interventions either 1-1 or in small groups. Our bespoke interactive and kinesthetic curriculum that we have in place aims to improve outcomes for our students, including social opportunities and skill development. We collaborate closely with families, students or professionals using a person-centered approach to ensure we are working as a collective for a positive end goal. We are an AQA Unit Award Scheme registered Centre and offer these Life Skill Awards for all young people at Life Skills Hub and all achievements and certificates are held in their Achievement Portfolio.
Hi, my name is James,

I began working with Life Skills Hub in June 2021. I currently lead the team at our Therapeutic Centre in Cottingham. I am passionate about being able to support the children and young people that attend the Therapeutic Centre with building their social skills, resilience, self-awareness, and assist with improving their overall psychological wellbeing and outlook on life, while helping our students to develop a variety of life skills.

Classical Ballet was once my main focus, having achieved advanced levels and having opportunities to perform with English Youth Ballet and London Junior Ballet, before completing some higher-level dance training at Bodywork Company Studios, Cambridge. In my spare time I enjoy going out for a run, one of my proudest achievements was completing the York marathon to help raise funds for Martin House Children’s Hospice.

I also love to go swimming. Meditation has become a part of my everyday life and escape from my busy mind! I am passionate about mindfulness as I have personally experienced the positive effects of being mindful. One of my biggest passions in life is baking and cake decorating. I absolutely love the calming effect of piping beautiful cupcake swirls onto cakes. I love to be outdoors and spending time in nature and I especially enjoy spending my time taking my rescue whippet 'Babs' out for long walks.
Hello, I am Ria,

I am so proud to be part of the Life skills Hub. I am currently based at the Therapeutic centre in Cottingham and have also worked with the Life Skills Hub intense outreach team. I have worked with children and young adults from all different backgrounds, nationalities and faiths including children with special education needs and disabilities and personal needs such as behavioural issues. I have supported school girl mums in education and Children who are looked after and support young adults in independent living.

When I am not in the working environment I support and welcome children and young adults in my own home as I am a foster carer for the East riding and have been for many years. Together with my family I enjoy the outdoor environment especially camping and keeping active and healthy and volunteering in my local community.
Hi I am Jack,

My aim is to help young people grow and achieve the best they possibly can. At Life Skills Hub this is at the forefront of what we do. Our therapeutic work really does help students in a variety of ways such as socially and with managing anxiety. I struggled with this at school as a young person, therefore I am super passionate about being there for today's young people.

Within the Therapeutic Centre I run fitness and music workshops for the students, including guitar lessons. My other work is with the students to overcome anxieties and become more comfortable out in social situations. I also bring my border terrier 'Poppy' into the Centre, which our animal loving students enjoy.

In my personal life I love health and fitness and staying active and I love getting out in nature. I am a big fan of the NFL and I also make house music.
Hello. I'm Jason.
Nothing pleases me more than being able to help people achieve their full potential and I'm lucky enough to have been able to work in jobs that have enabled me to do that all my life. Throughout my varied career I have worked with adults with mental health problems, spent a long time working to support homeless people, counselled people with addictions and cared for people with learning difficulties. Outside of work, I take photographs and create digital art, ride my bike, walk my dog, listen to David Bowie, spend as much time as possible with my son and devour anything and everything to do with Star Wars.
